#49 - What, No Goose!

This cache was located along a gravel road that runs adjacent to the interstate. We hiked through the field (snow was all gone) and found an ammo box under a fallen tree. Shari found this one...we left a keychain and took a TB - Baseball Fanatic.

#48 - L & C State Park at Onawa

2-15-09
We found this one near the lake that was full of geese! They made such a loud noise. At one time they all flew away and were so loud then they all landed on the water again. I am not sure I would like to live near this lake. Then we went to find the cache. It was by the sign in front of the park ranger's sign. This was an ammo box full of lots of stuff. We took the TB "It's Twins Territory". We left a geocaching poker chip. Jack found this one.

#47 - Monkey's Cache

2-15-09
This cache was located near the Lewis and Clark Nature Area. There was a small roadside parking space and found it in the hollow of a large tree. Jack found it on the ground inside the trunk. We signed the log and went to the next cache.

#46 - Eight Small Soldiers

2-15-09
We stopped by a rest area and the GPS brought us to the back by the fence. We saw 8 small trees lined around the fence line. Shari noticed this cache hanging on a hanger in the trees. We signed the log and kept going.

#45 - MV Park

2-15-09
This cache was located in the Missouri Valley Park. We walked through the snow and our GPS was very confused. It sent us 15 feet west and when we got there, it would send us 15 feet east...and so on. Finally we looked at the clue: "Look Up" and realized it had to be in the tree. Shari looked in the tree and found a camo pill bottle. We signed the log and kept going.

#44 - Welcome to MV

2-15-09
We found this one on the ledge by the "Wecome to Missouri Valley" sign. This one was located in a black rock key holder. We signed the log and continued on our way to Sioux City. Shari found this one!

#43 - Sodapop Mountain

2-15-09
As we were hiking up this hill, we had to stop because there were two deer running down the hill. We must have scared them when we snapped a branch along the trail. It was a beautiful location that overlooked the lake. We waited for them to pass and continued to the cache. It was an over-sized ammo box. When Jack opened it, there were "Springy Things" that popped out! One the other side we found the cache...signed the log...and hiked back down the hill.

#42 - The Ol' Fishing Hole

2-15-09
We kept hiking through the woods and found the next one. Shari found this one under a tree. There were lots of fishing type trade items. We left a Pioneer Village keychain. We signed the log and kept going!

#41 - Standing Bear Cache

2-15-09
We kept hiking through the trees across the snow. We found an ammo box with a TB in it. We took "Aid-the-Cacher" out of this cache. We left our Meet and Eat Geocoin. We were getting tired. So far we have walked about 1 mile through the snow. Jack found this one!

#40 - Banana Split

2-15-09
We hiked across country from Beware..the Bear about .14 miles. This one was located under a fallen tree in a camo ice cream container. We left an Autoland ice scraper and signed the log. Shari found this one. Lucky we were wearing our snowboots in the hills!

#39 - Beware...the Bear

1-15-09
We moved the truck about a half a mile away from the first cache. We then walked through the forest and found the cache behind a tree about .15 of a mile away. We left the travel bug bouncy snowflake. The clue was: By the base of the tree. Jack found this one! His first find. :-)

#38 - Exquisite Mint

2-15-09
This was our first cache in the Omaha area. We left at 2:00 AM to drive Bert and Sandy to Omaha to catch Amtrak. We went out for breakfast and started caching around 7:30 AM. We hiked .4 miles around the lake to get there...found the cache...and hiked back. The cache was an ammo box full of lots of small "junk". We signed the log, left a caching wooden nickel, and were on our way. It was a beautiful walk on a nice cool day. We walked along the lake ready for more!

#37 - WHS

2-8-09
Our first night cache! We had looked at Washington High School before and could not find it....this time we brought our torch (flashlight) and the snow had melted more than it was before. We walked up to the brick wall that was around the sign. KJ lifted one of the top bricks and found a white PVC pipe in it. The clue was..."Just another brick in the wall." Signed the log and went home after another great day of caching with the kids.

#36 - Kens 10 #1

2-8-09
We found this one near an elementary school. We looked all around the tree, then all of the sudden mom noticed there was a green container hanging on a high branch. She jumped up and grabbed the cache!

#35 - Kid Friendly #11

2-8-09
This one was located near the Sioux Empire Fair Grounds. We hiked about 1/2 mile across a grassy field. We found it located under a group of trees. Mom spotted the location...KJ of course, ran ahead and got the cache! We left a TB and took nothing...lots of small junk in it.

#34 - Kid Friendly #3

2-8-09
We found this one under a bush near SE VoTec in Sioux Falls. We walked up and started looking and of course, Kendall found this one!

#33 - Rest Area by Adrian

We had already found this one before, but let Kait find it by herself. We dropped off the Geo-Gourmet TB and picked up Bouncing Snowflake TB!

#32 - Gateway to Campingfarmers Caches

2-1-09
This one was located at the entrance of Rock Valley's new campground. We were looking at the rock pillars that are on both sides of the driveway. Kendall looked up at the light pole and saw a silver medicine bottle sticking out vertically. He jumped up and grabbed it. It came down with him. When we opened it, we found a signature log. We signed it and called it a day....time to go home and catch the last half of the Super Bowl.
Score for the day:
Kendall - 5
Mom - 2
Di - 2
Kait - 1

#31 - Winterfield

2-1-09
We were still by the pit but this one took us to the shelter house. We had to search all of the braces that held the roof. It was painted brown so it was hard to see on a day that the sun was starting to set. Mom felt in the corner brace and came up with the cache. We signed the log and went to our last cache of the day.

#30 - Pitts Cache

2-1-09
We were by the Winterfield Pitt in Rock Valley. The clue was "No need to go down the hill" which was good because there was a steep hill into the pit. This cache also said would be very difficult in the winter. We tried anyway. We had to dig a lot of snow from around the fallen tree trunks. We looked for about 20 minutes and decided we were cold...Kendall kept digging for about 10 minutes and moved several logs. All of the sudden he had a big smile on his face and came to the truck with the cache. We took a travel bug out of the cache to move along.

#29 - Heart of Rock Valley

2-1-09
This cache was located between the post office and the city hall in Rock Valley. There were a lot of muggles on a Sunday afternoon drive. Di went around the front of the sign and saw a small bench. She reached under the bench and found a magnetic signature log. We signed it and went to the next one.

#28 - City Park

2-1-09
We stopped at the Rock Valley City Park and walked to the middle of the park through the snow. The weather started to turn cold and the wind was really blowing now. We found a shelter house because the clue was "unless you are tall, you will need something to stand on" so we figured we could stand on the picnic tables. So we all were standing on the picnic tables when Kendall came up with yet another cache! This was a magnetic Key Holder. We signed the log and continued.

#27 - Sport Complex #2

2-1-09
This was located about 500 feet from the other one. When we got to the end of the row of pine trees, we saw two trees. Kendall walked up to a small scraggly tree and found this camo container towards the bottom of the tree wired in it. There was a dead mouse on the branch above the cache. Yuck. We signed the log and were on our way.

#26 - Sport Complex Cache

2-1-09
This was located in the Sport Complex near Rock Valley. We walked through the snow and Di found this in a pine tree in a camo container. We signed the log and moved on.

#25 - A Bridge too Far

2-1-09
Sneaky little cache! This cache was located on a cement bridge west of Doon. We searched high and finally found it low. It was in a pole that held the guardrail leading onto the bridge. Mom found this cache in a black tube. The clue was "You are looking at it." When you are looking at the bridge, you can see this cache. On to Rock Valley.

#24 - Cool Old Bridge

2-1-09
We walked up to this old bridge...it was a cool old bridge. Anyway, Kait walked right up to the red reflector on the bridge and it was a magnetic cache. We signed the log and went on to the next one.

#23 - Drippy Old Tower

2-1-09
This was near an old wooden water tower. We took Auntie Di with us after the bowling alley close and before the Super Bowl. We all were just getting out of the truck when Kendall reached up to find it. He found a very small silver tube. We couldn't get it open so we had to go back to the truck and get a tool. We couldn't sign the log since it was wet and all stuck together.

#22 - Crossing the Borderline

1-31-09
We went back home on I-90 and found our next cache of the interstate at a rest area. Kendall found this one first. It was at the back of the rest area by a huge electric pole under a tree. We walked through the snow and found it! We took a wooden nickel and left an Autoland ice scraper and KTWB keychain.
Score for the day:
Kendall - 3
Mom - 2

#21 - Hummer1

1-31-09
This cache was located near a Hummer dealership. There was a wooded area and we knew we were looking for an ammo box. Mom looked up the hill and saw the box...she should not have said anything because then Kendall ran up the hill and beat her to the cache. We dropped off our TB Take Me Away. We took a Geocoin and signed the log. Later we found out that the coin has traveled over 15,500 miles. It had been to Iraq.

#20 - UND Fighting Sioux

1-31-09
This cache brought us to the sign for The Sioux Empire Fair Grounds. We walked up to the sign and KJ saw a GE electical box. He casually walked up to the box and opened it...the log was in there. We signed the log and went on our way!

#19 - On the Borderline

1-31-09
The next cache took us to the border between South Dakota and Minnesota. We searched the welcome sign high and then low. There were some loose rocks near the base of the sign. I found this one in a green pill bottle. We signed the log and went our way. We had to act like tourists for a few minutes while the muggles went by.

#18 - West Side Rest

1-31-09
KJ and I went caching one Saturday. We decided to have a friendly competition to see who could find the most caches. We pulled up to the rest area and went through the snow up the hill. We searched around in the trees and I found it! We took the Travel Bug Aslan (lion) and left a puzzle and marbles.
